EXCLUSIVE

An emotionally charged series of paintings stemming from journal entries

'back to where it all began' (1)

Oil On Canvas

84 x 84cm

The first painting in the 'Exclusive' series.

A painting of a different style that has informed the series and also the paintings that will follow. Represents the first chapter in the journal that has been kept during this series as well as a pivotal moment.

January 2024

'back to where it all began II' (1)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

85 x 63.5cm

The second painting in the 'Exclusive' series which re-imagines the first painting in the series. This painting also ties into the first chapter of the journal that has informed the series.

'you will see if you take a scan,

the setting reserved for making scran,

things from here hit the proverbial fan,

back to where it all began'

January 2024

'in search of art' (2)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

144 x 90cm

The third painting in the 'Exclusive' series. This painting corresponds to the second journal entry dated 07/03/2023.

'in the corner of a pub about to start,

is a band all making up their part,

locals and celebrities sharing a drink with heart,

here we are, in search of art'

January - May 2024

'what am i looking for?' (3)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

144 x 81cm

The fourth painting in the 'Exclusive' series and third in this more abstract format. This painting corresponds to the third journal entry dated 20/03/2023.

'pondering over the time spent on the phone,

it really has become a tedious bore,

mulling over the familiar taste of home,

just what am i looking for?'

March - July 2024

'wanting what i can't have' (4)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

66.5 x 49.5cm

The fifth painting in the 'Exclusive' series and fourth in this more abstract format. This painting corresponds to the third journal entry dated 07/04/2023.

'i've found myself thinking 'there was a time,'

but now sitting with a can and a half,

it's been difficult to make this rhyme,

wanting what i can't have'

June - September 2024

'the feeling won't go away' (5)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

99.5 x 135cm

The painting in the 'Exclusive' series that corresponds to the journal entry dated 12/04/2023. Created in a similar abstract style to the previous paintings.

'wandering past the place where they play,

not somewhere I would like to stay,

fixating on trivial things that matter nay,

the feeling won't go away'

June - October 2024

'reaching out' (6)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

28.5 x 32.5cm

The painting in the 'Exclusive' series that corresponds to the journal entry dated 13/04/2023. Created in a similar abstract style to the previous paintings.

'headed south away from the tout(s),

it'll be busy below the surface I have no doubt,

listening to a song that achieves nowt,

time to start reaching out'

August - October 2024

'confidant angel' (7)

Oil On Canvas

84 x 84cm

The second painting in a more realistic style, following on from 'back to where it all began (1)'.

Like the first painting in the series; this oil on canvas is informative to the series and some of the paintings to come.

Unlike the first painting in the series; a self-portrait.

October 2024 - April 2025

'confidant angel II' (7)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

84 x 84cm

A painting that forms part of an informal diptych; an abstracted version of 'confidant angel (7)'.  Related to a journal entry made in early May 2023.

'early afternoon in a place named for Gabriel,

it'll be a long time before we hear a bell,

but this place I do consider swell,

for a meeting with a confidant angel'

September 2024 - April 2025

(made in tandem with 'confidant angel (7)')

'do i want to make this move?' (8)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

49.5 x 66.25cm

The eighth oil painting on wood panel as part of the 'Exclusive' series that relates to the journal entry dated 06/05/2023. Created in a similar abstract style to the previous paintings.

'a sturdy drink while some try for a try,

while a carriage led by hooves,

uncertainty sometimes wants to make you cry,

do I want to make this move?'

September 2024 - May 2025

'give, give, give... get nothing back' (9)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

71.75 x 48cm

The ninth abstracted painting in the series, stemming from a journal entry made on 17/05/2023. A somewhat rarer landscape orientation piece, albeit a lot smaller than the previous two landscape pieces ('in search of art (2)', 'what am i looking for? (3)')

'a colleague making waves, firmly on track,

similar success in the future? Or am I a hack?

interest in me is at a lack,

give, give, give... get nothing back'

June - September 2025

'accessorize' (10)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

49.75 x 66.25cm

The tenth abstracted painting in the series, built from the journal entry made on 03/06/2023. A busier, more complex image in contrast to some of the previous paintings but equally vivid with highlights and colour.

'privacy invasion attempt by someone in disguise,

clicking in person until my eagle eyes,

spotted something that led to demise,

is it really time to accessorize?'

June - October 2025

'like a lemon [50]' (11)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

144 x 80.5cm

The eleventh abstracted painting in the series, built from the journal entry made on 11/06/2023. Another larger landscape piece, similar in dimensions to 'in search of art' (2) and 'what am i looking for?' (3). This is one of the images that I was most excited to create.

'turn it again, one more time,

after half a century the red team won,

six strings have helped me feel fine,

like a lemon'

August - December 2025

'not for me' (12)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

132 x 99cm

The twelfth abstracted painting in the series, stemming from a journal entry that actually dealt with uncertainty and stress from a different source; work. The creation of this painting saw an introduction to some varying shades of blue and purple - not something seen in abundance in previous paintings.

'a week in the countryside to clear my head,

travelling in something beautiful and red,

trying to convince myself, now I can see,

this is not for me.'

August 2025 - March 2026

'the right choice' (13)

Oil On Perspex (with poem)

46cm x 61cm

The thirteenth abstracted painting in the series. Something radically different in from the previous paintings in the series; created using oil paint on a sheet of perspex instead of a wood panel. The journal entry that inspired this painting dealt with a moment of clarity. I expanded on this concept by using a ground that was transparent.

'with uncertainty like a lamp and I a moth,

I feel I'm beginning to find my voice,

persevere or just rip the bandage off?

either way, this is the right choice.'

October 2025 - January 2026

'how many more times?' (14)

Oil On Panel (with poem)

20 x 26.5cm

The fourteenth abstracted painting in the series. Another smaller scale painting; I am very keen to experiment with scale, and smaller paintings provide a very different challenge to large scale ones.

'disappointment can't change the way I feel,

the current emotion with time will heal,

conversation this painful is akin to crimes,

how many, how many more times?'

December 2025 - March 2026
